About this song
Number 2 of the Album for the Young (Op. 68), the piano collection Schumann began in 1848 as a birthday present for his daughter. Short, crisp notes follow one another like soldiers marching.
Practice tips
There are many rests between the notes. Keep the notes short and really stop on the rests so it sounds like marching.
Where a dotted eighth and a sixteenth appear ("dum-da"), clap the rhythm with the metronome first.
Bars 1, 5, 9 and 13 are the same notes. Learn one and you can play the others with the same fingerings.
The biggest jump is in bar 33 (↑C → G). Alternate the two fingerings a few times so your fingers learn them first.
We took only the top line (the melody). Transposed for saxophone (alto part). Repeats are written out as in the original. FingerNola fingering pictures and accompaniment are added to every note.
