About this song
A German song Brahms set for four-part choir. The words, based on a poem by the 17th-century poet Friedrich Spee, describe a sad song heard in the still of the night. Here we use the soprano line of the choir.
Practice tips
It is in 3/2, so one half note is one beat. Count a slow "one-two-three" as you play.
Use the rests after the short notes in the middle as your places to breathe.
Bars 2 and 3 are the same notes. Learn one and you can play the others with the same fingerings.
Where the octave key goes on and off a lot: bars 6, 7 and 15. Keep your left thumb close to the octave key.
The biggest jump is in bar 15 (↑G → B). Alternate the two fingerings a few times so your fingers learn them first.
High notes that use the palm keys (↑↑D and up) come in bar 12. Check their pictures on the fingering chart first.
We took only the soprano line of the parts. Transposed for saxophone (alto part). FingerNola fingering pictures and accompaniment are added to every note.
