About this song
An old air written down in the north of Ireland in the mid-1800s, the "Londonderry Air" became "Danny Boy" when an English songwriter set words to it in 1913. With its slow, long notes it sounds especially warm on saxophone and is a favorite at recitals.
Practice tips
Play the three pickup notes (D–G–A) in one breath and carry them into the long B.
Notes joined by a tie (⌒) are held without a break. Breathe at the ends of bars 5, 9 and 13.
The high B in bar 14 is the peak of the song: octave key plus the left index finger. Take a full breath before it.
