About this song
Isaac Watts's poem (1719) set in 1839 by the American Lowell Mason to the tune "Antioch", said to be inspired by Handel. The first line walks down a full octave from high D to low D, which makes it perfect scale practice.
Practice tips
Bars 1–4 step down from high D to low D: cover the keys one finger at a time from the top.
Going from the first to the second note, lift your thumb from the octave key; C♯ after high D is all fingers open.
Tongue the repeated notes in bars 12–15 (F♯ F♯ F♯…) clearly.
